Overview - Engine and Drive

The 27hp Westerbeke is under the center cockpit locker. There is a side panel inside the starboard locker with quick release latches to get to the starboard side of the engine. This side is where the oil filter and oil dipstick are. The white hose seen in this picture is the water fill hose coming from the deck fitting. The other side panel (in the port cockpit locker) can be removed with screws, but there is nothing routine to do to the engine on that side. This is a small hatch in the center of the transom, behind the engine.

This is a look down on the transmission, drive coupler, and the water-fed exhaust. You can see the drive leg sticking out aft (the right side of the picture). There is a hydraulic pump in the starboard cockpit locker that allows you to raise and lower the drive leg completely out of the water.

Here is a closer look at the hydraulic pump and the reverse lock in the starboard aft cockpit locker. You can see the little "T" handle on the back wall you have to hold out while initially raising the leg. It releases the reverse locking mechanism that holds the leg down while in reverse gear. There is a thumbwheel valve that closes off the system so that the pump doesn't have to hold all of the pressure while the leg is in the up position.
