Projects - Microwave!

I found the "perfect" microwave for the Gemini. This is a microwave from GE named "Mike". It is touted as a dorm microwave. I don't know how long the page will be there, but you can see it at: http://www.ge.com/appliances/usa/ge/gmwomm.htm

It is EXTREMELY small inside (0.3cu ft, I think, 500 watts), but it is perfect for warming a cup of soup, coffee, or making a bag of popcorn. It fit PERFECTLY between the two side panels that hold the paper towel rod. However (there's always one of those, isn't there?), once there, it is not possible to plug it in because it is so close to the outlet, the plug won't fit. What I did was buy two of those "thin-plug" extension cords, one lightweight and one heavy duty (air conditioner model). The light-duty one I cut the end off of and wired in directly to the microwave, replacing the old one.

With the heavy duty one, I cut off and wired to one of those surface mount outlets which you can see in the picture to theleft. The cord is pushed up between the vinyl and the top of the paper towel brackets. This is what the plugs look like, squeezed between the microwave and the bulkhead (plugged into the existing outlet). Sorry about the focus - just use your imagination and you'll see it. Finally, I put two small screws right through the paper towel rod into those side panels at each end. This is a hold-down for the microwave. I put some of that non-skid rubber mat underneath to keep it from just sliding out.

Now, where to put the paper towels........
