Projects - Anchor Chainhook

I was constantly having trouble with the anchor chain (mine is 35ft) when I got to the last few feet and had to either a)snug it down to motor up and break the anchor out, or b)snug it down with the anchor dragging in the water to wash it off.

There was no real way to lock it down on the main cleat for this purpose.

I spliced a chainhook of the appropriate size (for my chain) to a piece of 1/2inch line and made a loop in the bitter end.

Now I just drop the loop over the cleat and the chainhook is "at the ready" at whatever point I need to lock down the chain.

It is very easy to slip it onto the chain while holding tension on the rest of the rig. This was not so easy to do when I was trying to wrap it around the cleat.

The hook and loop stow in the anchor locker when not in use.
