Projects - Wheel Cover

What can I say, I had a lot of spare time on the last trip sitting in Beaufort waiting for the 30knot winds to die down. I used a series of alternating half hitches all the way around. I put a 2 line, 5 bight turks head at the center position over the top of the other line.

I was shocked that I used all but 8 inches of the 100 feet of line I bought to do this. I am just glad I didn't cut it before I started! It was tough at the beginning trying to pass all 100 feet through the hitches.

I eventually wound most of it onto a wooden toggle and unrolled it as needed.

As a side benefit, it made the wheel look bigger around. I thought that it looked kind of small before anyway.

Note the cool window screen frame over the helm window (see cockpit screens project)!
