I
got really frustrated fumbling with the four tabs around the hatch
screens and then taking the screen all the way out and setting
it down somewhere just to close the hatch. "There
must be a better way...."
I used the smallest brass hinges
I could find and put them on one edge of the screens. I drilled
and tapped #4 holes into the aluminum frame on the outside edge
and mounted the hinges with SS #4 screws. For
the plastic hatch trim ring, I used self tapping screws. I had
to insert a plastic block (the black thing) in order to make the
hinges stand off at the right height.
I put all of the hinges on the inboard
sides of the screens so that they could be manipulated while standing
in the companionways of each hull. Only the one swivel tab is
needed to hold them up on the outboard edge.
These
work really well. Now you can stand in the companionway of each
hull and, using only one of the tabs, lower the screen and get
to the hatch supports easily. No muss, no fuss.
