Projects - Stereo

I put it in to the electrical panel with one of those J.C. Whitney "adapt-to-anything" car stereo install kits. It was a bit cramped, but it fit in there. I moved the cigarrette lighter plug to the othter side of the cabin (on the wooden panel just behind the rear compass cover). It made more sense to be over there anyway, with the TV there and the helm (GPS, spotlight, etc.). I also put in three switches (the red ones) for each of the three things that were connected straight to the battery without breakers (Stereo, VHF, and Propane detector). I like to make sure these are disconnected from the battery when I leave the boat.
Next came the speakers. These are the cockpit speakers I put in for the stereo. The locker cavities made great speaker enclosures -- the bass is incredible! These are connected to the "rear" fader outputs. Inside the dinette, I use two Radio Shack bookshelf speakers connected to the "front" fader outputs.

This is the underside of one of the speakers. I first taped the wires down to where I wanted them to run, and then just put large beads of "goop" on the wire at regularly spaced intervals. This saved buying all of those fancy wire tie-downs and screwing things in and stuff.
