The
main reason for this project was the annoying rattling noise
the windows made when the companionway door closed.
While
this didn't completely cut out the drafts (there are plenty
of other places for that to happen), it did stop the rattling.
I
got some household door weatherstripping from the hardware store.
The one here is the kind made from foam wrapped with a nylon
cover and a rigid plastic strip attached, running its length.
I
cut the pieces to the right length for the bottom and two sides
of each window. Then I put a small bead of 5200 on them and
pushed them down into the window slot, insuring the 5200 side
was toward the wood.
Well,
I made quite a mess, and probably wouldn't do it that way again
(the 5200, that is). Since
then I have seen some automotive replacement door seal trim
that probably would have worked a lot better. It has a gripper
channel that probably would have just clamped onto the edge
of the wood panel with the insulating bubble towards the window.
Oh,
well....
