This
one helped me keep from attaching the spinnaker and main halyard
to some other place when leaving the boat or stopping overnight.
It
is especially good in that the spinnaker halyard can stay "stored"
in the hook while sailing also.![](halyardhooks2sm.JPG)
I had seen these somewhere in catalogs and when it came time
to buy them, I couldn't remember where or find them again.
In
the process of looking for them, I was FORCED to look
at all the other hardware in ALL of the catalogs. I kept
running across various items that looked like they could do
the job with some "minor" modifications.
I
settled on some $2.00 flat-ish dinghy bails. They had a rounded
curve on the inside edge. If cut them just after the curve in
the bail, and then twisted the rounded bail part 90 degrees
it would work. I also rounded off and smoothed out the edge
cutoff part.
One
problem arose with the profile of the spreaders. The aft edge
is just that - an edge. I had to put both hooks on the forward
edge of the spreader because of the curve and the amount of
material needed to tap in the 8-32 screws. Good for the spinnaker,
bad for the main halyard (you now have to bring it around the
shrouds).
Those
"real" ones probably would have been $20. each anyway.......
